This is a great way to promote Scouting within the Orthodox Church. My parish, St. Mary Magdalene (OCA) in Fenton, MI, does not have a Scout unit yet, although I plan to seek interest this Spring for a Cub Scout Pack.

In one of the units I serve as unit commissioner, sponsored by an Orthodox parish, the priest invites pack members to be part of the Great Entrance, carrying the pack’s flag with ribbons. At end of Liturgy, right before the dismissal, he has all Scouts past and present come to the front of the church and recite the Scout Oath and Law, starting with Cub Scouts and going all the way up through Venturers and adults. It is an impressive showing to the community of the presence of Scouting in our town.
