The Eastern Orthodox Committee on Scouting [EOCS] Scholarship Committee announces the recipients for the Twentieth Annual National Scholarships. The first place winner is Abreana Bardossas from Parker, Colorado and the runner up is Nicholas E. Wardner from Ann Arbor, Michigan.. The awards are $1,000 and $500 respectively. They were selected by the EOCS Scholarship Selection Committee from a large pool of applicants from throughout the United States and funded by the EOCS Scholarship Endowment Fund.
Both have shown outstanding service and leadership to their parish and community along with deep involvement and participation in high school organizations and activities, where they both received numerous awards and recognitions. Along with their outstanding scholastic achievements, they excelled in the scouting program, developing leadership and skills as well as advancement. While both have very busy agenda, they still find time to assist in their church, community and scouting activities. Because of their scholastic achievements and all around activities and accomplishments both received numerous college acceptance.
Abreana will attend the University of Denver, Colorado and will major in Hospitality Management and Nicholas will attend the University of Michigan majoring in Engineering.
The EOCS Scholarship program is offered to high school seniors who are Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts and they are members of an Eastern Orthodox Christian Church. Eligibility requirements are: earned the Eagle Scout Award for boys or the Gold Award for girls; earned the Alpha Omega Religious Scout Award; demonstrated practical citizenship in their church, school, community, scouting unit; and scholastic achievement. The scholarship is not based on need.
